At Turtle's Trove the intent is to provide the community with helpful and in depth reviews for products I personally purchase. I'll try to particularly focus on items that I had trouble finding information on before I purchased, but anything I currently own is up for a potential review here.
I've noticed a significant drought of helpful reviews, with a lot of reviews going towards long winded videos or blogs that just showcase a quick review of Amazon reviews. Both of these I find extremely unhelpful, so Turtle's Trove is going to do what little I can to change that for things I own.
Limitations
As this site is just items I personally own reviews unfortunately are about how the product in question stands by itself, I'm not able to reasonably buy several products to do a "best of" or other comparison at this point.
Equipment
Right now pictures and videos are being captured with a Pixel 4a. Electricity usage is being measured with an Etekcity 'ESW15 Voltson Smart WiFi Outlet Plug'. I haven't been able to find the accuracy of the outlets energy monitoring, but it's always been aligned with what I would think is reasonable for the appliance I've had it attached to. It's probably safe to say there's a ± 10% margin of error on the energy measurements.
Affiliate links
Right now no review contains affiliate links. This may change in the future and if it does this will be updated, but I believe affiliate links are also counter to the intent of a review site. If I make money from you buying a product, don't I have more incentive to write a positive review?
"Is it worth it?"
I see this question a lot regarding various products across multiple areas of interest and I believe the answer is almost always "the cost is subjective". Frankly, all the products reviewed at Turtle's Trove are niche/premium items in one way or another so it's hard to objectively say I think something is worth the price when price means different things to different people.
As an example, a hypothetical $500 widget is easier to justify for Bill Gates than you, and is harder to justify if that makes up a large percent of your monthly rent, car payment, etc...
With that being said, items are reviewed with their price in mind in their respective segments. If a product is charging a premium price but does not include premium materials, features, or craftsmanship then that's something worth noting and vice versa.
Closing thoughts
I hope you find the review(s) you're interested in helpful and they answer questions that you were not able find answers to in other places. If you have questions, pelase free to comment them on the respective review and I will do my best to answer them.
